Your own style and brand voice in AI

You can spot generic AI text a mile off. Teach AI to write in your voice so the copy sounds like you, not like every other website on the internet.

Why it sounds generic

By default AI writes "the average of the internet" - smooth, impersonal, full of phrases like "in today's world" and "revolutionary solution". Until you tell it who you are, it reaches for that average.

Describe your voice

Give the AI a few adjectives and some guardrails:

  • What you are like: "friendly, direct, no waffle, with a light touch of humour".
  • Who you are writing to: "small businesses and sole traders, non-technical".
  • What you never say: "no superlatives, no 'revolutionary', no corporate jargon".

Teach it with samples

The strongest trick: paste in two or three pieces of your own real writing and say "This is how I write. Hold exactly this tone." AI imitates rhythm, sentence length and vocabulary better than any description could describe them.

Save a "style prompt"

Save that voice description as a short paragraph you paste at the start of every brief. Or put it permanently into a custom GPT or project so you do not have to repeat it.

The final test

Have the AI write something and ask yourself: "Would I say it like that?" If not, refine the voice description. After a few rounds the text will be indistinguishable from your own.

The goal is not for the text to sound like AI. It is for it to sound like you - just faster.
