The first answer is almost never the final one - and that is a good thing. The real power is in how you refine it together with the AI.
Treat it as a conversation
Do not keep starting from scratch. React to the answer: "shorter", "more specific", "change the third point", "this sounds too much like an advert". The AI holds the context and rewrites only what you asked.
Give an example (few-shot)
This lifts quality more than anything else. Show one or two samples of how you want it: "This is how I write: [sample]. In the same style, write…" AI imitates a pattern far better than it follows a description.
Let it think out loud
On more complex tasks, add: "Think it through step by step first, then answer." You get a more considered and more accurate result.
Let AI improve its own answer
Works surprisingly well: "Rate your own answer and write a better version." Or "What would this answer still need to be excellent?"
When to start over
When the conversation gets tangled and the answers get worse instead of better, do not fight it. Start a new chat with the refined brief you have worked out in the meantime.
An amateur takes the first answer. A professional uses it as a springboard.
