SEO basics for a small business

You do not need to be an SEO expert for people to find you on Google. The basics are yours to handle and they do most of the work - here they are without the filler.

What SEO is

Put simply: getting your site to show up when people search for exactly what you offer. You do not pay for it (unlike ads), but you do have to do something for it.

The basics that do the most

  • A title and a description on every page, with your keywords and your location.
  • Copy that answers what people are searching for.
  • Speed and mobile (see the next lesson).
  • Original content - no copying.

Local SEO

For a local business it is gold. Want to show up for "hairdresser Pilsen"? Put the city in your copy and set up a Google Business Profile (the next lesson).

Content pulls

Articles that answer customers' questions bring people in from Google for years. That is exactly why this Academy exists.

What to watch out for

SEO is a long game, not a switch. No tricks and no shortcuts - build it honestly and it will grow.

SEO is not sorcery for experts. It is mostly having a site that is fast, clear and answers what people actually search for.
